Hosting and supporting African scholars and practitioners at Harvard is part of the Center for African Studies’ core mission. The Center for African Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, Visiting Fellowship Program, and the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program make up the core of our fellowship opportunities.
Fellowships
African Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Our Postdoctoral Fellowship Program enables promising young African scholars to spend time at Harvard’s Center for African Studies, in Cambridge and Johannesburg, to pursue scholarship and teaching, under the mentorship of Harvard faculty.
CAS-HYI Fellowship
A nine-month Training Program in African History and Cultures in collaboration with the Harvard Yenching Institute.
Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program
The Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program (HSAFP) supports up to one year of study for mid-career professionals from South Africa.
Visiting Scholar Program
The Center hosts non-stipendiary visiting scholars each year from collaborating institutions who come to collaborate on research with Harvard faculty.
