The Center for African Studies creates communities for scholars and practitioners to share their work and research to further the teaching and learning of the subject. These initiatives aim to foster a positive learning environment to tackle practical issues, share resources, and build community. The African Studies Workshop provides a professional apprenticeship for doctoral Africanists-in-training across the disciplines, and a laboratory for international scholarly exchange. The African Arts Initiative includes a workshop to explore the need for research and study of artistic and curatorial thought and practice as well as a curator-in-residence program for Africa-based curators at Harvard to invest.
