Teaching Africa in the Classroom

The Harvard Center for African Studies is a member of the African Studies Association Outreach Council, a group of ten National Resource Centers across the country. As a member of the Council, our goal is to promote the teaching of Africa in K-16 classrooms by collaborating on an annual teacher workshop and producing teacher resources for the proliferation of responsible teaching of area studies in U.S. schools.

The ASA Outreach Council Website

In 2019, the Harvard Center for African Studies launched the ASA Outreach Council's new website, asaoutreach.org. This platform was created to share the teaching resources, professional development opportunities, and events offered by members of the ASA Outreach Council and other African Studies Centers across the country. Harvard CAS manages and updates this website regularly. We encourage all K-16 educators to visit the site and offer any suggestions for desired resources, teaching materials, or other related content.
