***Please note that the INSPIRE program is on hiatus for Summer 2020***
The goal of INSPIRE is to unlock African potential and make the possibility of attending university overseas a reality for students who deem it to be beyond their reach. INSPIRE aims to bring talented underprivileged rising high school juniors and seniors between the ages of 15 and 18 years from African schools to Harvard’s two-week Pre-college Summer Program. Coupled with extra-curricular activities, this rigorous academic program is designed to give participants a taste of the Harvard experience. Participants stay in a Harvard dormitory, eat in a Harvard dining hall, and are taught by Harvard faculty. Upon arrival at Harvard, participants are provided with a laptop, which is theirs to keep. With a year or two left before completing high school, INSPIRE exposes students to Harvard University and other US colleges and universities that offer financial aid and other opportunities to African students with merit. INSPIRE also pairs each student with a Harvard undergraduate mentor. The mentor acts as an invaluable guide in the process of applying to university upon graduating from high school.
