Student Community Mixers

The Center for African Studies offers annual student mixers to strengthen the CAS community at Harvard. 

Our annual Harvard Africa Mixer takes place each October in conjunction with Worldwide Week at Harvard. Our largest community event, the Harvard Africa Mixer brings together students, staff, and faculty from across Harvard who share a connection to or love of Africa. 

Our biannual Africa Send-Off Mixer takes place each December and May of the academic year. This event invites students traveling to Africa for winter break or summer to connect with fellow researchers and travelers headed to the same countries, providing a space for students to share their travel and research expertise with their peers. 

The Center also hosts two Open House events at the start and end of the academic year. Our Student Open House takes place each September. Students are invited to CAS to learn more about our programming, funding, and internship opportunities and to learn about the Harvard and Africa landscape on campus. To closeout the year, CAS hosts a Graduation Open House, inviting students and their families to celebrate the end of the year in the CAS Lounge and reflect on their time here at Harvard. 

CAS hosts additional community events throughout the year led by our student organizations. Harvard-registered Africa-focused student organizations are welcome to request to use the CAS Lounge for their events throughout the year at no cost.
