Join the Harvard African Business Club for a discussion with Cameroon’s Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, and Dr. Donald Kaberuka, former President of the African Development Ban. The discussion will focus on debt management and fiscal consolidation. Alamine Ousmane Mey will provide students with an insight on the Cameroon’s recent forays in international capital markets. The Minister will address questions on the intricacies of sovereign bond issuance and more generally discuss how governments can generate sustainable revenues to fund development projects long-term. This will be followed by a conversation with Dr. Kaberuka and questions from the audience.

Speaker Biographies:Alamine Ousmane Mey is an electro-technical engineer and banker, and had not yet worked in government until his appointment as Minister of Finance in 2011. Educated and trained in Germany, he came back to Cameroon in 1994 to take up a job with the CCEI bank that later on became the Afriland First Bank. In 2003, he was appointed as Afriland First Bank’s General Manager– which grew to be one of the largest financial institutions in the country under his leadership.Dr. Donald Kaberuka was President of the African Development Bank for ten years before coming to HKS this fall as a Hauser Leader-in-Residence at the Center for Public Leadership. Prior to joining the AfDB, Kaberuka served as Rwanda’s Finance Minister from 1997-2005, during which time he led the country’s successful economic reconstruction after the end of its civil war.
