CAS Programs Assistant Internship 

Availability: September 28, 2026 – May 15, 2027 

Hours: 10-20 hours per week 

Pay: $18-$22/hour 

Location: Cambridge, MA | Hybrid 

Eligibility: Harvard College Student, Federal Work Study Program Eligibility Required 

Summary: 

The Center for African Studies is a university-wide resource center committed to broadening knowledge about Africa and African perspectives. The Center serves as the place where “Harvard an Africa meet” on campus, and hosts educational and social events, summer internship programming and funding opportunities, language study and post-doctoral fellowships, faculty grants, and more.  The Center is currently looking for a Harvard undergraduate student to join the team as the CAS Programs Assistant Intern to assist with our annual events and programming. The intern will work closely with the Center’s staff throughout the year on projects related to student support, communications, and event coordination. Additionally, the intern will serve as a liaison between the student body and the Center to facilitate connections and publicize events and programming.  

Duties: 

  • Serve as a liaison between the Harvard student body and CAS 
  • Support student programming and resource design 
  • Assist with communications (CAS newsletters, poster design, social media, etc.) 
  • Assist with office processes, digital and electronic filing and organization 
  • Coordinate and support on-site events, including event reporting and evaluation 
  • Other duties, as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Effective communicator 
  • Detail-oriented and organized 
  • Great writer (both creative-writing and research writing) 
  • Well connected to Harvard College students 
  • Experience using excel and other project management software 
  • Some experience using AI tools for proofing and editing 
  • Experience using various communications software (Canva, Mailchimp, Wix) 
  • Independent and able to work effectively in a hybrid work environment 

We are looking for a current Harvard College student who can commit between 10-20 hours per week from September 28, 2026 – May 15, 2027.  The intern is expected to work in-person at CAS at least two days per week within the hours of 9am-5pm. Additional hours can be conducted remotely or in the office depending on preference. The intern must be available to support occasional evening events and have the flexibility to assist with other in-person events as needed. This position is only open to students who are eligible for the Federal Work Study Program.
