Fellowships

Hosting and supporting African scholars and practitioners at Harvard is part of the Center for African Studies’ core mission. The Center for African Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program make up the core of our fellowship opportunities.

African Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 

Our Postdoctoral Fellowship Program enables promising young African scholars to spend time at Harvard’s Center for African Studies, in Cambridge and Johannesburg, to pursue scholarship and teaching, under the mentorship of Harvard faculty. 

Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program

Harvard University President Derek Bok, established the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program (HSAFP) in 1979 to address the needs of South Africans who were denied access to advanced education by the apartheid system.
