"Present and Future of Africa" with former Prime Minister of Senegal, Dr. Aminata Touré

Join us in a discussion between former Prime Minister of Senegal, Dr. Aminata Touré, moderated by Nicholas Burns. Dr. Touré will explore how Africa is a place of success and hope and will focus on opportunities for the future of the continent.

Biography: 

 

Dr. Touré served as the Prime Minister of Senegal from September 2013 until July 2014. She was also Justice Minister from 2012 to 2013 where she focused on anti-corruption campaigns. She is currently a special envoy of President Macky Sall for Internal and External Affairs. Since 2014, she led several Presidential election observation missions including in Mauritius, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia and Kenya, where she co-led the first round of the election observation mission on behalf of the Carter Center with then-US Secretary of State, John Kerry. Dr. Aminata Touré will be a Harvard Kennedy School Fisher Family Fellow with the Future of Diplomacy Project in the academic year 2018-2019.

Dr. Touré has worked as a human rights and women's rights activist within Senegal and around the world. She was Director of the Gender and Human Rights World Department of the United Nations Population Funds in New York (from 2009 to 2012), Senior Adviser at UNFPA Headquarter in New York (from 2003 to 2009), UNFPA Senior adviser in Côte d’Ivoire (from 1998 to 2001), and UNFPA Senior adviser in Burkina Faso (from 1996 to 1997).

Dr. Touré holds a PhD in International Business Administration and Finance and masters in Economics. Further, her areas of competence include Economy, Good governance, and Gender. She has experience in the latter working as a director for the Gender and Human Rights World at UNFPA. Dr. Touré is fluent in English, French and Wolof and has led more than 30 UNFPA worldwide publications.
