The Rwandan author Scholastique Mukasonga will participate in a panel on Saturday, November 5th, at 5 PM as part of the Festival Albertine at Albertine Books in the Cultural Services of the French Embassy of New York. Mukasonga is the author of the acclaimed Our Lady of the Nile and her highly anticipated forthcoming memoir, Cockroaches. Cockroaches recounts her experience fleeing the ethnic violence of Rwanda, capturing not only the suffering brought about by her family’s displacement, but also the beauty of small, quiet moments. “She writes in a luminous and penetrating language, to guard against forgetting,” wrote Le Nouvel Observateur. Festival Albertine is curated by National Book Award-winning author of Between the World and Me, Ta-Nehisi Coates.
