The Harvard University Center for African Studies is committed to cultivating the next generation of Africanists, African leaders and scholars. Everything we do helps to broaden public and scholarly awareness about Africa, African experiences and perspectives. To achieve this goal, we act as a University-wide nexus for Africanist research and teaching, we connect Harvard’s Africanists with institutional partners on the Continent, we support and promote the enrollment of African students at Harvard, we facilitate inter-faculty research and teaching on Africa, we offer a robust schedule of events for the Harvard community and the general public, and we fund African language training programs and student travel/research grants and internships. The Center for African Studies maintains a wide range of collaborations with universities and other educational institutions across Africa, and our office in Johannesburg, South Africa, spearheads initiatives on the African continent.
