Riina Turtio, non-resident postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard University Center for African Studies, has recently completed a PhD in International History at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. Her PhD dissertation approached the wider topic of decolonization and state-building in francophone West Africa by analyzing Guinean, Ivoirian and Voltaic decisions in building their national militaries.
