The Center for African Studies is committed to supporting the activities of Harvard student organizations focused on Africa. Grants of up to $500 are offered to registered Harvard University student organizations to fund Africa-related events or activities per year. CAS does not fund benefits, fundraisers, or events that generate profit for a student group or charity organization. Events and activities should have a strong academic, professional, or cultural component.  
  
Grant decisions are based on the activity’s relevance to teaching the Harvard community and the public about Africa. Examples of activities that may be funded include workshop series, cultural performances, Africa-related conferences and Africa Week academic or cultural events.

**Applications for Student Group Grants must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the event/project date. CAS does not support any events held during the reading or exam period. Applications will be reviewed within two weeks of receipt.**

**ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE EVENT OR PROJECT DATE.**

**Application Requirements:**

Please send the following to Lindsay Moats, <Lmoats@fas.harvard.edu> , at least two-weeks before your event:

- 1 page event description that includes a statement on how the event relates to Africa. At the top of the page, please answer the following questions: 
    - Is the event open to the public (*must be open to the public to be eligible for funding*)
    - How may attendees do you anticipate?
    - Are you collaborating with any other departments/student groups to host the event?
- Excel Spreadsheet that shows event budget. Please include data on funding you've already received and any pending funding applications.
- Your event program or brochure with anticipated agenda

**Eligibility Requirements:**

- Must be an official Harvard University student group
- Must have an active Buy2Pay profile with up-to-date information for processing awards via mailed check or Zelle
- Must be a student group with an appointed faculty advisor
- Events must take place in the Boston/Cambridge area
