Dr. Marvin Jansen is an accomplished healthcare educator, academic leader, and social impact advocate with a deep commitment to advancing medical education and leadership capacity in Africa. He currently serves as the Head of the Clinical Skills Centre at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Faculty of Health Sciences, where he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on training undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare professionals through innovative, simulation-based education.

Dr. Jansen is the founding director of the African Simulation Network, an initiative active in over 28 African countries, which brings together members committed to strengthening healthcare simulation capacity across the continent. His leadership has been instrumental in building collaborations that promote contextually relevant, resource-sensitive approaches to health professions training, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, equity, and local innovation.

In recognition of his contributions to healthcare education and leadership, Dr. Jansen was awarded the Harvard South Africa Fellowship for 2025–2026. Through this fellowship, he will participate in the Professional Leadership Development (PLD) program at Harvard Business School, a transformative executive education program that equips senior leaders with advanced skills in strategy, innovation, and organizational leadership.

Dr. Jansen holds a PhD in Health Sciences Education and has published and presented extensively on healthcare simulation, faculty development, and curriculum integration. He was a recipient of the UCT Grand Challenges Award, through which he is currently leading the development of Africa’s first open-access textbook on healthcare simulation. He also established the Innovation Lab at UCT, a space dedicated to designing affordable and contextually appropriate simulation manikins and training tools for African health systems.

Beyond his academic work, Dr. Jansen is deeply committed to community development. He is the co-founder of SilverStream Tutoring, a mathematics tutoring program for high school learners on the Cape Flats, aimed at closing education gaps and empowering youth from underserved communities.
