SUMMARY:Literature and Activism in the Equatorial Guinean Diaspora
DESCRIPTION:
Equatoguinean writer Juan Tomás Ávila Laurel embarked on an unexpected hunger strike in February 2011 to protest the repression of civil liberties in Equatorial Guinea. Now exiled in Barcelona, Spain, Ávila Laurel continues using his literary work to denounce the second dictatorial regime established in 1979. His latest book, The Gurugu Pledge, is a novel dedicated to the migrations of Africans to Europe and offers a vision of an extended phenomena resulting from decolonization and dictatorships.

Co-sponsored with the African American Studies Program and the Department of World Languages and Literatures.

	ORGANIZER: Boston University

	WEBSITE: https://www.facebook.com/events/2215168538797620/
