DESCRIPTION:<p>Professor Lidwien Kapteijns (Wellesley College) will lead a discussion about methodology and primary sources for students of Islamic Africa.  Participants are invited to read and comment on Kapteijns and Vianello’s ongoing research about a particular genre of Islamic Sufi sources from 19th- and 20th-century Brava (on Somalia’s Benadir coast).  Through her paper, Professor Kapteijns will explore the challenges of using primary sources in local languages (including Arabic) to address broader themes in the study of Islamic Africa.</p><p> </p><p><strong>ORGANIZER(S): </strong>Islamicate Africa Seminar <br><strong>EVENT WEBSITE: </strong>http://projects.iq.harvard.edu/islamafrica<br><strong>CAS Sponsored </strong></p>
