Two additional Harvard summer study abroad programs in Africa are launched.

The United States Department of Education designates Harvard a National Resource Center for African Studies with its award to the Committee on African Studies.

In addition to National Resource center status, the Committee on African Studies was also awarded a grant to administer Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships.  Today, some 100 faculty members across the FAS and Professional Schools work on Africa, offering some 300 courses annually on Africanist topics.… Read more »
