On March 16th, 2018, in Ghana, the Harvard Center for African Studies Oppenheimer Faculty Director, Professor Emmanuel Akyeampong, was conferred an honorary doctorate degree at the University of Ghana during their 70th Anniversary celebrations. The University of Ghana held a Special Congregation for the award of an Honorary Doctorate Degree to Professor Emmanuel K. Akyeampong on the second day of his delivery of the 2018 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Great Hall. 

From March 15 - 16, Professor Akyeampong delivered two lectures for the 2018 Aggrey-Fraser-Guggisberg Memorial Lectures titled, “Nkrumah, Cocoa, and the United States: The Vision of an Industrial Nation-State" and “African Socialism; or the Search for an Indigenous Model of Economic Development in Ghana?”
