The Struggling International Response to Ebola: What can be learned about gaps in the global health system?

Professor Michael VanRooyen, Director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at Harvard University and Dr. Suerie Moon, Co-Chair of the Forum on Global Governance for Health, will discuss what the global response to Ebola has revealed about gaps in the international system to respond to outbreaks of infectious disease.This presentation will address questions such as: What is the role of the U.N. system, World Health Organization and other intergovernmental bodies, well-resourced governments (such as the U.S.), the pharmaceutical industry, NGOs, research funders, and others in responding to the epidemic? Why has the collective response so far been inadequate to get the outbreak under control?Professor VanRooyen and Dr. Moon will start with a brief Q&A, then open the floor for audience discussion.
