Anika Wilson, Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will present "Mgoneko: Rape, Magic, and Women's Rights Urban Legends in Malawi." Professor Wilson is the author of Folklore, Gender, and AIDS in Malawi: No Secret Under the Sun, widely recognized as a significant major scholarly endeavor on that topic. In her talk, she will discuss gendered power dynamics, urban legends, rumor, and Malawian women's responses to and interactions with the HIV/AIDS crisis.
