Islamicate Africa Seminar (IAS)

Date:

Thursday, February 2, 2017, 5:00pm

Location:

CGIS South Room S153

The Islamicate Africa Seminar (IAS) is a research seminar that aims to break down barriers dividing Islamic and African studies by creating an interdisciplinary forum for scholars with an interest in Islam and Africa broadly conceived. We encourage presenting any stage of research, from close readings of texts to workshopping dissertation chapters and everything in between. This week the discussion focuses on new approaches to intellectual and book history in Africa through three short articles found here and feature a presentation on legal literature by Matthew Steele, PhD Candidate in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. All disciplines, backgrounds, and engagements with the field are warmly welcomed. For more information/RSVP please contact msteele@fas.harvard.edu.

The Islamicate Africa Seminar is generously supported by Harvard’s Center for African Studies (CAS), the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS).
