Innovation in Africa: Trends and Opportunities

The Social Innovation + Change Initiative (SICI) is pleased to welcome social entrepreneur Thione Niang for a roundtable conversation on the current trends, opportunities, and challenges happening across the African continent and what that means for the future for social innovation on the continent. Thione’s experience spans sectors and industries including serving as an ambassador on U.S. energy, co-founding multiple social enterprises, engaging as a community organizer, and leading political strategy. Most recently, Thione is co-founder of Akon Lighting Africa alongside musician Akon and businessman Samba Bathily, which has a mission to provide electricity to 600 million African households and communities through sustainable solar energy. Thione will draw upon his experiences as an innovator and entrepreneur pushing the boundaries of these fields for positive social impact.This will be a moderated conversation and students are encouraged to reflect and share their perspectives.

All are welcome to attend. This event will especially appeal to students with an interest in social innovation and experience living and working on the African continent.
