African Studies Workshop featuring Mario Kraemer

Dr. Mario Kraemer is a fellow in the Department of Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Cologne (Germany). He will present, “Chieftancy, the state and the ANC: power and basic legitimacy of ubukhosi in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.” Susan Cook, Executive Director of Harvard’s Center for African Studies, will serve as the moderator for the discussion.A week in advance, the presenter’s paper will be circulated through the Harvard African Studies Workshop listserv. It is assumed that everyone has read the paper before the workshop. After presentation and commentary, Workshop attendees are invited to engage in critique and discussion, under the moderation of the Workshop Chair.
