Hannah Appel is Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Global Studies at UCLA, where she also serves as Associate Faculty Director of the Institute on Inequality and Democracy. She will present The Licit Life of Capitalism: U.S. Oil in Equatorial Guinea. Discussant: Caroline Filice Smith (Harvard University).

A week in advance, the presenter’s paper and call-in information will be circulated through the Harvard African Studies Workshop listserv. It is assumed that everyone has read the paper before the workshop.  After presentation and commentary, Workshop attendees are invited to engage in critique and discussion, under the moderation of the Workshop Chairs.
