This week's group discussion features Teju Cole’s Everyday Is For The Thief takes place in 21st century Nigeria and he will lead us into a discussion of his adventures in Nigeria, its contradictions, as well as the boundaries of genre. Reviewers have questions about its genre: novel? fiction? memoir? Recently, in an interview with the New York Times Book Review, Teju Cole said that the novel is "overrated." And that the writers he is most interested in "find ways to escape it." The text, his thinking and our responses are the ingredients for a lively discussion. The event takes place at the Teaching Library at the African Studies Center at Boston University.
