The African Customary Law Conference will explore the changing dynamics of customary law in the twenty-first century. It will examine the challenges in the development and promotion of customary law practice and scholarship on the continent and responses to address these challenges. Panelists will discuss issues such as the relationship between customary law and the formal legal system; customary law practice; land law; chieftaincy; family law and related topics.

The Leitner Center is pleased to announce the African Customary Law Conference planned for January 28th-29th, 2021. The theme for the conference is “Customary Law in a Changing Africa.” The conference is convened by the Center for African Legal Studies at USPA Law School, and the Leitner Center for International Justice at Fordham Law School.
