Urban economies, modern metropolises, planning for the future

Featuring:

Kofi Bio is Associate Principal of the Accra studio overseeing all projects in Africa. Kofi  has worked alongside David for almost a decade. He began working in the London studio where he played an instrumental role in the completion of several significant projects including the Aishti Foundation, a mixed-use arts and retail building in Beirut and projects for Goldman Sachs and Tishman Speyer respectively.

In 2017, Kofi together with David led the opening of the Accra studio to drive the realisation of key projects such as the National Cathedral of Ghana, the Marine Drive masterplan development, and the Ghana Trade Fair redevelopment. Since its opening three years ago, Kofi has overseen the studio’s growth with an emphasis on sustainable development and cutting-edge technologies with vernacular design into the wider African market, securing major projects in South and East Africa.

In his role as Associate Principal, Kofi oversees all Africa based projects and provides advice on contractual arrangements, trade contractors, current market situation, commercial strategies, project programmes, design scopes, fees and payments.

Kofi holds a Bachelors in Architecture, a Masters in Architecture and a Postgraduate qualification in Professional Practice and Management all from Lincoln University.

The Center for International Studies (CIS) has partnered with the newly launched TRUE Africa University (TAU) to host a webinar series focusing on various aspects of sustainable development in Africa. Thursdays at NOON ET, starting on March 4, TAU founder, MIT alumnus, and CIS research affiliate Claude Grunitzky, will interview the thinkers, shapers and doers who he sees as the inventors of the future of Africa.

The MIT x TAU webinar series will be an opportunity for the MIT community and the world to engage with luminaries such as Taiye Selasi, the Ghanaian-Nigerian author; Jeffrey Sachs, the American economist; and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, the Nigerian serial entrepreneur behind some of Africa’s most valuable startups.
