## **CAS Student Ambassador Program**

The CAS Student Ambassador Program offers students meaningful leadership opportunities in outreach, collaboration, advising, and engagement with Africa-related scholarship and activities across Harvard.

Africa-focused programming is distributed across Harvard’s schools and student organizations, but there is no central coordinating body to connect these efforts. As the place ***where Harvard and Africa meet***, the Center for African Studies (CAS) is uniquely positioned to strengthen collaboration and visibility across the University’s Africa-related programs, initiatives, and resources.

CAS Student Ambassadors help advance this work by serving as informed, approachable, and engaged representatives of the Center.

### **Key Roles**

Student Ambassadors contribute to CAS by:

- Promoting CAS and Harvard’s Africa-focused programming, resources, and opportunities
- Serving as student advisors and providing input on the design of programs and resources
- Supporting CAS projects, including creative marketing, social media, communications, and research writing
- Assisting with CAS events through hosting, outreach, and participant engagement
- Building connections with undergraduate and graduate student communities across Harvard
- Strengthening collaboration among Africa-focused student organizations, programs, and initiatives

- Opportunities to connect with CAS faculty affiliates, staff, and visiting scholars
- Informal mentorship and guidance from a CAS staff member
- Special invitations to CAS luncheons and other distinguished gatherings
- Opportunities to help shape how African Studies is presented and experienced at Harvard

### **Who We’re Looking For**

We are seeking students who will be actively engaged with CAS throughout the semester and beyond. Ideal ambassadors will:

- Participate in one of Harvard’s Africa-focused student organizations
- Engage with Africa-related coursework, events, research, or other activities on campus
- Have a strong understanding of Harvard’s institutional landscape
- Be familiar with the needs and interests of the student community
- Be enthusiastic about connecting students with CAS and Africa-focused opportunities across the University

Ambassadors may serve in a student advisory capacity, support specific CAS projects, or contribute through a combination of both. The program is tailored to each student’s expertise, interests, and desired level of involvement with the needs of the Center and its stakeholders in-mind.

Ambassadors are appointed for one semester, with the possibility of renewal. Successful candidates should expect to contribute approximately two hours per week and attend two meetings per month with their assigned CAS staff member.
