Professor Theresa Betancourt Quoted in NPR Report on Boko Haram Child Abduction

In a story published by NPR, "The Kids Brainwashed By Boko Haram Were Silent for Good Reason," Professor Theresa Betancourt was quoted as an expert. Dr. Betancourt, Associate Professor of Child Health and Human Rights at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, studies child psychology in post-conflict communities. In particular, her research focuses on child combatants faced with repatriation into their previous communities.

Responding to the psychological needs of the Cameroonian boys recently freed liberated from Boko Haram, Dr. Betancourt suggests that a "normalizing environment" is necessary to establishing long-term mental health.
