INSPIRE Pre-College Summer Program

The goal is INSPIRE is to unlock African potential and make the possibility of attending university overseas a reality for many students who deem it to be beyond their reach. INSPIRE aims to bring talented underprivileged rising high school juniors and seniors between the ages of 15 and 18 years from African schools to Harvard’s two-week Pre-college Summer Program. This very rigorous academic program coupled with extra-curricular activities is designed to give participants a taste of the Harvard experience. Participants stay in a Harvard dormitory, eat in a Harvard dining-hall, and are taught by Harvard faculty. Upon arrival at Harvard, participants are provided a inexpensive laptop, which is theirs to keep. Furthermore, so as to keep participants engaged beyond the two-week experience, participants are granted continuing online access to Widener Library. With a year or two left before completing high school, INSPIRE exposes students to Harvard University and other US colleges and universities that offer financial aid and other opportunities to African students with merit. INSPIRE also pairs each student with a Harvard undergraduate mentor. The mentor acts as an invaluable guide in the process of applying to college or university upon graduating from high school.
