Harvard Africa Education Exchange Program
The Harvard-Africa Education Exchange Program is an eight-week opportunity to work and live at the Maru-a-Pula School (http://maruapula.org) in Gaborone, Botswana. One of Southern Africa’s top secondary schools, the Committee on African Studies is seeking capable interns prepared to take on a variety of roles including tutoring, coaching, and extracurricular advising. Interns should be comfortable in providing assistance in writing, math, SAT Prep, and college counseling. Maru-a-Pula School is English-speaking and offers interns a chance to expand their knowledge in African language and area study and to explore and learn about Africa in a captivating way.
Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in service activities in the local community and travel throughout Southern Africa. Travel expenses, room and board are provided. Only continuing Harvard undergraduate students are eligible. Students in all concentrations are encouraged to apply. Six undergraduate interns will be selected to participate in the Program.
Ideal interns for the Harvard-Africa Education Exchange Program are self-starters, sensitive to cultural differences, interested in Africa and African Studies, and have some experience with teaching. Interested candidates should illustrate these qualifications in their application. The Program requires a two-month commitment starting at the beginning of June and lasting until the beginning of August.
Complete applications are due to the Committee on African Studies by 5pm on February 17th, 2012. Finalists for the Harvard-Africa Education Exchange Program will be notified and scheduled for an interview shortly thereafter.
