For Students

Harvard Student Organization Grants

The Committee on African Studies is committed to supporting the activities of Harvard student organizations focused on Africa. We are able to offer grants of up to $1,000 per semester for these student organizations to fund African activities. Organizations must submit this grant application, which includes a proposal describing the purpose and nature of their activity; size and type of audience for which it is intended; the co-sponsors (if applicable) and a detailed budget using the template below. Student organizations are encouraged to seek additional funding to complement the grants awarded by the Committee.

Grant decisions are based upon the clarity and feasibility of the activity an organization is planning. Examples of activities that may be funded includes lectures, performances, workshops, conferences and Africa Week events. Committee grants cannot be used to fund social activities and dinners. There is a more thorough list of allowable and non-reimbursable charges in the CAS Student Group Grant Guidelines document.

Student organizations must have official standing with Harvard University prior to requesting funding and events must take place in the Boston/Cambridge area. Furthermore, given the limited funds available, each organization will only be awarded one grant per semester. Grant proposals should be submitted to Elise Noël, Student Programs and Outreach Officer, at enoel@fas.harvard.edu

Applications are accepted and granted on a rolling basis.
