In the last decade, the idea of Africa's great economic growth has gained traction in the West. Time Magazine, the Wall Street Journal and the Economist have all embraced the "Africa Rising" narrative. Grieve Chelwa, economist and Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Center for African Studies, disagrees. He claims that Western economists get Africa wrong. Chelwa will join Morten Jerven, Professor of Development Studies at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, in Oslo for a panel discussion on development in Africa and Western economists' failure to understand it. The panel will be moderated by Ingrid Stoplestad, researcher at the nonprofit group Fremtiden i våre hender.
